LETRAS LATINASLetras Latinas—the literary initiative at the University of Notre Dame’s Institute for Latino Studies—was founded in 2004. In 2007, a Letras Latinas office was established in Washington, D.C., from where Francisco Aragón ramped up partnerships and collaborations, including with the Poetry Society of America; the Poetry and Literature Center and the Hispanic Division at the Library of Congress; the Folger Shakespeare Library; branches of the Smithsonian, including the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum; and the Poetry Foundation.
In 2010, Aragón was awarded the “Outstanding Latino/a Cultural Arts, Literary Arts and Publications Award by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education. In 2015 he was awarded a VIDO Award by VIDA, Women in the Literary Arts and 2017, he was a finalist for Split This Rock’s Freedom Plow Award for poetry and activism. |
